Disability campaigner & council leader approves new electric buses

Local disability campaigner, Laura Chalmers, invited Somerset Council Leader, Lib Dem Bill Revans, to see the difference the Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP) funding is having for Burnham residents. 
 

The 21 service has brand new electric buses that are fully accessible for wheelchair users. The evening service for the Number 21 Taunton to Bridgwater service which has also now been extended to Burnham-on-Sea.

Laura said: “The service is much easier to use. The driver was superb in helping me to get on and off and signposted a course that First Bus runs to help wheel chair users learn how best to manoeuvre.”

Councillor Bill Revans further added, saying: “Supporting people with disabilities to live independently at home is a core part of our strategy to improve lives and control social care costs. Making our public transport accessible and reliable is part of the journey we are on.”
